blue thomasThe College of Saint Thomas More announces extended studies on a limited basis, beginning fall semester 2004.

The College of Saint Thomas More has begun to allow a number of students who do not live in the proximity to the College to begin taking courses through extended studies.  Such students must apply to the College and be accepted in order to enroll in our limited E.S.P.  It is the custom of the College to require extended studies to attend a minimum of four weeks during the semester. (These classes typically meet either once a week or twice a week with one day in between).  We ask E.S.P. students to come to our Fort Worth campus for the first week of the semester so that they can be present at the opening lecture and get acquainted with the professor as well as the other students in the class.  Four weeks later the student should plan to return in order to get "plugged in" to the discourse and texts which the class is focusing on.  Again after another four weeks or in the ninth week of the semester we ask the student to return for a third time and for a final time in the 13th or 14th week of the semester.  Students may complete the exams at their residence by doing so according to the "honor system."  (See Extended Studies Program Handbook.)

The College is committed to provide audio and/or videotape recordings of the sessions which E.S.P. students are not able to attend.  These will be mailed to the students in the week immediately following the lectures.  Students are encouraged to contact professors by email or by appointment on the telephone.  It is the student's obligation to be sure that he or she is fully aware of the expectations for all assignments and papers assigned in the class.

When a student enrolls in extended studies he or she will be interviewed by the Dean of Students in order to be briefed on all expectations and to see about setting up a "degree plan" if that is going to be possible.

For more information contact the Dean of Students, Mr. Stephen M. Matuszak at smatuszak@cstm.edu.
