Date: 2-16 June 2008

The university city of Oxford is part of the history of the College of St. Thomas More and of every College and University in the English-speaking world, and the Oxford Studies Program is an essential part of our College curriculum, introducing students to the enduring tradition of English speaking arts and letters begun in Oxford in the twelfth century.  Each June, students and friends of the College travel to England to immerse themselves in this historic place and in the living literature of lyric poetry and of Shakespeare.

The College of Saint Thomas More invites you to participate in Rome Term XX: The City as Text

Date: January 1 - January 16, 2009

Join the Fellows of the College for intensive study of the Eternal City:  The Early Christian Basilicas, the Catacombs, the Vatican and the monuments of classical antiquity.

Because of the importance of Rome as the center of Mediterranean civilization for two millennia and as the first city of Christendom, study in Rome is an integral part of the College curriculum. Each year the College of Saint Thomas More invites every member of the community to travel to Italy for intensive study of the historical, theological, and artistic development of the city.
The course is Rome:  The City as Text.  Students and participants will visit and study the important sites of Roman antiquity, such as the Forum, the Pantheon, and the Coliseum; make visits to the early Christian churches, the catacombs, and the major basilicas; and attend orientation lectures designed to assist them in their studies.

Greece

Date: To be announced

Join The College of Saint Thomas faculty in a tour of the sites most important in the civilization of ancient Greece and the subsequent Christianization of the eastern Mediterranean! At its height, Greek civilization stretched from its current boundaries eastward around the coast of present-day Turkey (ancient Ionia), where the ruins of Troy evoke the story of the Trojan War and the magnificent excavation of Ephesus recalls both the glory of the Roman Empire and the address of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.

Come with us as we explore and study Athens' Acropolis and temples, Apollo's sanctuary at Delphi, Agamemnon's castle at Mycenae, the quintessential outdoor Greek theater at Epidaurus, the site of the first Olympian games, and the place where Saint Paul preached to the Corinthians. Our tour will also include study of the ancient Minoan sites found on the islands of Crete and Santorini, as well as a visit to Rhodes with its Crusader fortresses, castles, and ancient towns. Lastly, we will visit Istanbulancient Byzantium and Constantinople and a variety of sites which span from the Roman Empire to the era of Constantine and beyond.
